Josef Baumgartner

Economist, Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO)

Josef Baumgartner has been working at the non-profite Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) in Vienna since 1996. He analyses and predicts inflation and prepares medium-term forecasts and policy simulations of the Austrian economy. He was a guest researcher at the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (2002-2003), a member of the ESCB Inflation Persistence Network (IPN, 2003-2005) and a visiting scholar at The Europe Center at Stanford University (2011, 2012 - fall terms). In 2009 he was Acting Desk Officer for Austria at DG ECFIN of the EC. Besides WIFO publications and project reports, he published in German Economic Review, Managerial and Decision Economics or Empirica. He studied Economics and Econometrics at the University of Linz (MA in Economics), the Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna and the Vienna University of Economics and Business (PhD in Statistics and Economics). Before joining WIFO, he was an assistant professor at the Vienna University of Technology (1994-1996).
