Gaston Gelos

Deputy Head, Monetary and Economic Department, Bank for International Settlements

Gaston Gelos is Deputy Head of the Monetary and Economic Department and Head of Financial Stability at the Bank for International Settlements, where he is also a member of the Bank's Senior Management Team. Previously, he was an Assistant Director at the Western Hemisphere Department of the IMF, where he was the mission chief for Mexico. Prior to that, he served as Chief of the Monetary and Macroprudential Policies Division in MCM, and prior to that, as Chief of the Global Financial Stability Analysis Division in the same department, where he led the work on the analytical chapters of the GFSR. He further held a variety of other positions at the IMF, including as Resident Representative to Argentina and Uruguay. His research includes work on capital flows, financial stability, and monetary policy, and has been published widely in leading academic journals. Mr. Gelos holds a Ph.D. from Yale University and a Diplom from Bonn University. He is a CEPR Research Fellow.
